Nestled among swamps and bayous of South Louisiana, the Chitimacha Indian Tribe survives today as one of only four federally- recognized tribes still surviving with the state. Located in Charenton, Louisiana, the Chitimacha Indian Reservation has developed into a thriving community. Although most tribal members today lead what is considered to be "normal" lives (no teepees or hunting buffalo) -- others of our tribe dedicate themselves to creating and continuing traditional Chitimacha arts and crafts.
